World AIDS Day
S.B. Devi Charity HomeRef. No. SB/GS/2/1439/2025
12 December 2025
Dear Friends,
December 1st marks World AIDS Day, a global moment to show solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide, remember those who have been lost, and renew our commitment to ending the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.
The theme for World AIDS Day 2025,
“Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” recognizes the critical challenges we face.
While decades of remarkable scientific and collective efforts have saved nearly 27 million lives and put life-saving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in the hands of millions, recent disruptions—including funding cuts, political shifts, and persistent inequalities—threaten to undermine this progress.
On 1st December, we observed World AIDS Day at our project building in association with the
Rotary Club of North Calcutta and the
Inner Wheel Club of North Calcutta.
Our primary target group for this programme was the commercial sex workers of Sonagachi.
This year, our focus was on genital hygiene and HIV/AIDS awareness.
A questionnaire on genital hygiene was prepared to guide the participants in maintaining proper hygiene practices.
Dr. Gitali Roy Mitra discussed the correct and effective use of condoms, while
Dr. Bikas Basu spoke in detail about HIV/AIDS.
At the end of the programme, food packets, condoms, and other essential items were distributed among the participants.
The session was highly interactive and engaging for all.
We are sharing a few photographs from the programme. A detailed report will be submitted later by the
PHPA Monitor.
Please acknowledge receipt.
With best wishes,
Sekhar Chattopadhyay
