S.B. Devi Charity Home

S.B. Devi Charity Home consists of social workers to serve poor people. This is a Kolkata-based NGO serving society silently for a decade. S. B. Devi Charity Home, Kolkata, and Foundation Calcutta Project Basel (University of Basel), Switzerland are joint development projects. After the foundation of both societies in 1989, S.B. Devi Charity had got registered by the State Government on 10 July 1991. The society has obtained a license under the West Bengal Clinical Establishments Act 1950. This has got registration U/S 12A of the Income Tax Act 1961 and Exemption U/S 80G of the I.T. Act 1961. The organization is also registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 1976, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is non-political, non-religious, non-profit making, and fully private. Late Sona Bala Devi was a devoted social worker. She did a lot for the deprived class of people very silently. Society was named after that great lady. The institution is the child of her dreams.

S.B. Devi Charity Home runs its activities from the funds raised from grants received from various funding agencies and individual donations. We want to be that seed of hope for those who leave their dreams behind in despair, not knowing how to live beyond the barriers of sadness and unfortunate consequences. We dream to behold a nation where knowledge is accessible to anyone and your potentiality will decide your worth and not your gender! Over the years, we are actively working not only to eradicate hunger and sins but also to make people aware of themselves, their worth, what they are capable of, and where they exactly belong, our beliefs lie solely on the boundless power of knowledge and the miracle one can create endlessly.

This journey toward honesty and generosity has been nothing less than divine, and dreams come true if not in a day, then a decade later, so hold on to your hope and remember us in need, we were, we are, and we will always be there to pull you out of darkness and the sun’s shine will fill your life with light that will reflect on your face and your heart.

Mission

Our organization aims towards improving the basic medical health care for needy people, opt for preventive programs, exchange of students mainly from Europe and India, betterment of studies and research programs.

Vision

We work on the betterment of life for those who need a hand to walk past the darkness and experience the essence of light, and how beautiful it feels to evolve and grow. To bring a new reformation, we need to uplift each other in our hard times and celebrate our victory unitedly.

Objective

Our goal is to direct people on a path leading to serenity and hope, to eradicate discrimination and let them fly with their wings of freedom, to aware that every child is unique and special, their small hands are not to carry weights but to write stories and paint the world in their own colors, to protect our mother nature by keeping it sparkling clean and forever evergreen!

Aims of S. B. Devi Charity Home

Basic medical Service

The first aim was to improve basic medical services for the poor people in a quarter of North Kolkata.

Basic services according to the “Primary Health Care” of WHO are provided.

The types of treatment offered are Allopathy, Homoeopathy and Ayurveda – which is the patient’s choice. Physicians from each of these streams of medicine working together can learn from each other to enhance their own practice and the quality of comprehensive care for their patients.

Preventive Medicine

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is now a cliche. Our second aim takes the meaning of this proverb literally.

Preventative medicine was introduced so that people could become aware of ways to keep healthy. When someone is attacked by a disease, treatment is necessary. However, it is even more important to develop immunity so that a person’s life will have a minimum of disease and the need for drugs will be less.

Student Exchange

The third aim is the exchange of medical students. Physicians coming from economically disadvantaged communities in India want to provide the best service possible for their patients. Though they are competent doctors they lack experience in the advanced methods and techniques of developed countries. We support physicians who wish to achieve foreign specialised degrees.

European medical students are also given the chance to visit our country and work in government hospitals where they become familiar with tropical diseases and also get a good opportunity to study different cases which are rare where these students come from. They can also become aware of homoeopathy and ayurveda as it is practiced in India. This intercultural liaison results in a mutually beneficial relationship between S. B. Devi Charity Home and Calcutta Project Basel.

Studies and Research

The fourth aim is to conduct clinical studies for research purposes. This is an opportunity for gathering experiences and knowledge in different spheres of the medical field.

Medical professionals are also given the opportunity to manage projects under this venture.
